Cantabile is a chamber choir based in Chapel Allerton, Leeds. We’re a small group of experienced and enthusiastic singers who enjoy the challenge of performing a varied repertoire of music spanning four centuries and including works by contemporary composers. We’re dedicated to making a beautiful sound together in a choir where every voice counts.

We started out in September 2007 under the leadership of Jane Edwardson, and in April 2011 Ian Akroyd took over the baton. He has qualified with the Sing for Pleasure conductor training programme and this is his first appointment as musical director of a choir. Having sung with Cantabile from its inception, Ian hopes to further develop the choir’s musicianship through a programme of exciting and challenging work.
Our next concert, a Garland of Song, is on May 26th. It’s inspired by the present queen’s Silver Jubilee and echoes the festivities sixty years ago with songs written to celebrate both the first and the second Elizabeths.
